About us
Afarnet
is an independent, non-political and non-religious
website that has grown out of the initiative of a group of
Afars concerned about the situation of
marginalized Afar people in the Horn of
Africa.
The group, with different professional
background, has been involved in the affairs since the early
seventies, and are well familiar with political, social, and
economical developments in the region.
The Afarnet covers the events as it may
appear in all of the Afar land irrespective of its attachment with
the States of the Horn of
Africa,
as well as its political affiliations. The idea behind the
Afarnet is to highlight firsthand,
independent and objective information regarding current developments
and objective analysis of events that are shaping the Afar land. The
information would be available from Afar communities at ground
levels, various institutions and as well as from individuals
involved in the region.
Our website is open to any one who has interest and concerned about
the situation in the Horn of
Africa
in general and the Afar in particular. We believe that the Afar
problem could be resolved within the framework of the Horn of
Africa
and think the Afar issue is part and parcel to tackle the problem in
the region. Within this context, we encourage a comprehensive idea
that would contribute to the resolution of the conflict and bring
about peace and development in the region.
